Rootr Sync pushes the folder (or tag) you choose into a Rootr workspace. Teammates who don't use Obsidian read and edit it in a browser, and Claude or ChatGPT can read and write it directly. Nothing outside your chosen folder ever leaves your machine.

Setup
The plugin asks for two values. Here's where they come from.
About two minutes end to end. You only do this once.
1. Create a free workspace
Sign up and a workspace is created for you. No credit card, and the free tier covers this use.
2. Copy your API key and workspace ID
In Rootr, open Settings → Integrations. Create a key there — the page shows the key and the workspace ID together, ready to copy. Give the key read and write access to documents.
3. Paste them into the plugin, pick a folder, push
In Obsidian: Settings → Community plugins → Rootr Sync. Paste the two values, type the folder you want to share (or a tag), and run the command "Rootr Sync: Push selected folder now".
Scope
What leaves your machine, and what doesn't
- Only the notes inside the folder or tag you configure are ever uploaded.
- Nothing is sent in the background. Data moves when you run the push command, or on save if you switch that on yourself.
- The plugin ships with no analytics, no usage tracking, and no crash reporting of any kind.
- Your content is not used to train any AI model.

Questions people ask
- Do I have to pay?
- No. The plugin is free and always will be. The workspace it syncs into is free for up to 3 people, which covers this use. Paid plans start at $6 per person per month.
- Does it read my whole vault?
- It asks Obsidian for the list of markdown files so it can work out which ones match your folder or tag. The contents of notes outside your selection are never read from disk and never sent.
- Do edits made on the web come back into my vault?
- Not today. Sync is one-way: your vault is the source of truth, and a push overwrites the copy in the workspace. If someone edits a synced note on the web, the plugin flags the conflict rather than silently discarding your version.
- How does Claude or ChatGPT fit in?
- A Rootr workspace can be connected to Claude or ChatGPT with one URL. Once your folder is synced, your assistant can read those notes and write new documents back into the workspace — which then show up for everyone on the team.
